The President Welcomes Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Personnel to White House

Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to attend the presidential home.

He noted that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.

Details on the Tragic Event

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.

Presidential Offer

The commander-in-chief explained he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the parents of both members of the West Virginia Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump addressed reporters. “And likewise with him, no matter the outcome.”

Public Support

Community members came together over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.

Both they had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s government program to support policing efforts in Washington DC.

Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom

“Sarah was the kind of student that educators hoped for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the head of her former high school, informed the press. “She was caring, caring and always willing to support those in need.”

Funeral details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Legal Steps and Policy Changes

Officials have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.

The tragedy prompted the government to suspend asylum processing and temporarily stop granting visas to holders of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of Wolfe

Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the AP.

He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on Fox News Sunday that she planned to meet with the family.

Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom

Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with honor, per the military.

“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” the governor informed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her life ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
