The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
