The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.
Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often marked by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about following this charming family navigate their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to enjoy the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
