Lautaro Martínez Double Keeps Inter Milan in Pursuit of Frontrunners
Inter striker Lautaro Martínez scored a second-half double to earn his team a 2-0 win at Pisa, keeping the visitors firmly involved in the Italian league title race in spite of a less than convincing display.

Led by Cristian Chivu, Inter now are placed in third position in the standings with 27 points, tied with second-placed Roma and just one point adrift of table-toppers Milan. In contrast, Pisa occupy the third bottom position with 10 points.

Inter traveled in Tuscany aiming to get back on track after suffering a loss to rivals by Milan last weekend, followed by a Champions League loss at Atlético Madrid. However, they were forced to fight all the way by promoted Pisa. The hosts generated plenty of opportunities, but a efficient Inter scored the opener in the 69th minute when Argentine Martínez drilled a first-time shot into the top of the net. The forward then tapped in from point-blank with seven minutes remaining.
Inter’s capacity to score even with pressure was crucial in earning the victory.

In Spain, Real Sociedad mounted a dramatic fightback from 2-0 down to equalize at home against Villarreal, only to lose to a late strike five minutes into added time. Villarreal’s scoring came from Ayoze Pérez just after the 30-minute mark and Alberto Moleiro in the 57th minute, but Carlos Soler quickly pulled one back and Ander Barrenetxea leveled the score three minutes from time. Yet, Moleiro delivered the final say deep into added time.
In the late Spanish match, Real Madrid journey to Girona requiring a victory to return to the summit ahead of Barcelona, who recorded a 3-1 win over Alavés on the previous day.
