One 60-day cruise circling the Land Down Under has been cancelled in the wake of the tragic passing of an older female passenger who was stranded by the ship on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with other travelers from the vessel, but separated from the group for a pause. The liner departed without her and went back several hours later after the crew discovered the woman was not present.

An extensive hunt located her person the next day.

Officials are investigating the incident, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

Head of the shipping company said that passengers and staff on the vessel were notified that the continuation of the voyage had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and earlier mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he further stated that passengers would be given a full refund, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the travel back of the travelers via private aircraft".

Authorities also released an updated announcement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Commander" prohibiting any further travelers from entering the vessel.

The representative said that they would visit the liner in the port city upon its arrival.

Sequence of Events

The liner first departed Cairns on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the moment of the 80-year-old's passing. The tropical location was the opening port on the voyage.

Guests on board - who generally pay substantial amounts of money to participate in the voyage - were taken there for a shore visit with the option of walking or snorkeling.

The child of the victim said that her loved ones was "surprised and distressed that the vessel left the location after an scheduled tour without my mother".

In her statement, she described her parent as an "active elderly person" who was a participant of a walking club.

"According to scant details we have been informed, it appears that there was a lapse of attention and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She further stated that she hoped the inquiry would be able to determine what "the operator should have performed that might have protected Mother's life".

"Based on information from the police that it was a exceptionally warm day, and she fell ill on the hill climb," she stated.

"They requested her to head down, without accompaniment. Then the vessel sailed away, reportedly without performing a passenger count.

"During some point in that sequence, or soon after, mother passed away, by herself."

Operator Response

Through an announcement, the Head verified that the organization was "collaborating extensively with officials to assist their examination".

He said that the company was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had extended its full support to the loved ones.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The liner accommodates up to a hundred twenty travelers with 46 crew, according to official data. It was specially constructed to reach distant areas of the Australian coastline and is equipped with "small boats" - minor craft used to take passengers on land visits.
