Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his future after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It's important to change things and secure a win obviously but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his discussions with the team officials, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them after this game so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known failings from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a spell like this with outcomes like these.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to its rightful place, show everyone again the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
